What My Color Analysis Taught Me About My Wardrobe
I’ve been doing it all wrong… Plus, my favorite fine jewelry pieces to elevate a plain white tee!
Let me start by saying this: I need to go shopping. And I have. I’m already on it, guys. Why, you ask? I recently did a professional color analysis with Àme Color Studio and to say I was shocked by my results is an understatement.
The Process
I went in really, really open-minded for a 90-minute consult and we started with the basics—just talking about color and how I was drawn to it. My color guru, Zaya (I owe you my life! Just kidding. Sort of.) started our session by showing me some color palettes and asking me to pick my favorites, then asked me to describe my personality. I chose a brighter subset of colors—which, unbeknownst to me, ended up being my palette—and I essentially described my personality in the way I saw those colors. I said, “I’m energetic, I’m funny, I’m outgoing…” etc. It was eye-opening from the beginning.
She then brought me to her chair to do draping and it was really surprising to me that I am a much brighter color palette than I was expecting. Let’s just say black, charcoal, and bright-white wearing Dana are so 2024. Zaya draped multiple colors around my face to see how they complemented my features (or drained them) and I kid you not, I could see the vibrancy drain from my face in real time as she showed me which colors didn’t work. There was even a moment that was giving The Handmaid’s Tale. But we got to the bottom of things and found that I’m a Spring Light!
Then, on to makeup. Spoiler: I got this part right! We discovered that I am a summer palette in this area, and a lot of my makeup already matched that. (Praise be.)
She also recommended that I don’t change my hair color, which was a relief since I had no plans to do that anyway. A follower on Instagram had a great question about this that Zaya answered too:
“Great question! Your clothing and makeup don’t always have to be from the same season because they serve different purposes. Clothes are seen in the context of your whole body, while makeup sits directly on your skin, so the way colors interact can vary. It’s all about creating balance and harmony that enhances your natural features.” – Zaya, @ame.colorstudio
My Final Thoughts
The most surprising thing to me about this experience is that you do it without any makeup on, so you’re really honing in on the lines in your face, shadows, circles, and your undertones. There were moments when I thought I liked a color on me, but she would tell me to pay attention to my pores, then change to a slightly better color for me and my pores would virtually disappear. It was such a fascinating exercise and I’m so excited to bring color theory to DRD! Maybe even a color analysis event?! Who’s in?
How I’m Applying it to Jewelry
The wildest part about this experience was actually what we discovered about my jewelry. I am a yellow gold girly through and through, but with Zaya’s advice I should actually be wearing white gold every day and using yellow gold as a dressy option. I am usually the exact opposite (yellow gold daily, white gold for dressy), so that was such an interesting insight.
We also decided that, while bright white clothing is NOT for me, creamy white is! I founded Dana Rebecca Designs with the ethos that fine jewelry can be worn with ANYTHING—from your little black dress to your plain white tee. Except for me, it will now be with my *creamy* plain white tee. Whether bright white or off-white suits YOU best, I love the way fine jewelry elevates a tank or t-shirt. It’s such a fun way to play up your jewelry stack and make it the star.

Including some of my favorite necklaces below that are perfect for this.
xx Dana
